American Ireland Fund’s 32nd Annual New York Gala

The most influential among Irish America’s business and community leaders lent their support to the American Ireland Fund’s 32nd Annual New York Gala . Over 1,500 people gathered on the 3rd of May 2007 in New York to honour President Mary McAleese and the president and CEO of AIG, Martin Sullivan, and to award $1 million to legendary actor Paul Newman for Barretstown, his unique therapeutic programme for seriously ill children. The gala raised $4.15 million for important causes in Ireland, including two key projects that are part of the fund’s “Hope through Youth” programme. In addition to the $1 million donated to Barretstown, a significant amount was also given to  Rowallane Integrated College in the North, enabling the construction of a new integrated high school where Catholic and Protestant children will be educated together.
